The cycle path of Trasimeno

The Trasimeno cycle path can be travelled on a mountain bike or on foot. It’s a blend of dirt and gravel roads that now and again intersect with paved roads.
It covers about half of the perimeter of the lake: the stretch from Castiglione del LagoTuoro on TrasimenoPassignano on TrasimenoTorricellaSan FelicianoSant’Arcangelo is open. It is a 36 km long flat route over dirt roads. The sections in and around Passignano, Torricella and San Feliciano are over paved city streets.

Aside from the shoreline route, there are many cycling routes over secondary roads and mountain bike trails on the surrounding hills.

Location of the Hotel

The Trasimeno cycle path passes in front of Hotel Torricella.
The Hotel is actually located exactly at the halfway mark of the route.

Handy information… Setting out from the hotel you can ride to San Feliciano (about 7 km away) and get on a ferry with your bikes to explore Polvese Island, the largest of the three islands, on your bikes**.

** Bicycles can be loaded onto the ferries every day of the year except national holidays and if the type of boat in service at the time, traffic and the weather permit it.  A bike is considered luggage and each cyclist must load and unload his/her own bike and watch over it during the crossing. There is a surcharge for bringing cycles on board the ferries.

Umbria is steeped in history, culture and flavours.

Umbria is especially famous for its beautiful landscapes and breathtaking views. It’s natural beauty has earned it the nickname “The Green Heart of Italy”, and if Umbria is the green heart, then the centre of this heart is a blue lake, Lake Trasimeno!

Here’s some more information about our area: the lovely Trasimeno basin is entirely within the boundaries of Umbria, in the Trasimeno Nature Park, the largest of the Umbrian Regional Parks, and is encircled by gently rolling hills dotted with olive groves and vineyards. Perugia and Assisi are nearby and the Tuscan border is along the lake’s northern shoreline. It has a surface area of 125 sq km (it’s the largest lake of the Italian peninsula), making it the fourth largest in Italy. A round body of water, its perimeter is 53 km long, its diameter 15.5 at its widest point and it is relatively shallow: 6.5 m deep.  The lake’s surface has an elevation of 258 m above sea level.
